Actress Cheryl Hines emotionally told Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson on “The Tucker Carlson Show” Friday how difficult Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s 2024 presidential campaign made her job.
Kennedy launched his presidential bid in April 2023, with Hines telling Carlson on his show that her husband’s campaign slightly overlapped with her work on the final season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Hines said it saddened her that Kennedy’s politics separated her from her coworkers after so many years of enjoyment. “I don’t want to get emotional. I thought it was —” Hines said before taking a long pause to gather herself.
“It was hard ’cause it made me sad. Because I had been working on this show for a long time, and it was always pure joy,” she said. “And I mean, even when the vaccines of it all were introduced, there started to be an element that made its way into conversations at work that, up until that moment, had — like I said — only been pure joy.”
Carlson asked if Kennedy’s politics began to “divide [her] friendships.” Hines answered affirmatively.
The actress also lamented that she constantly faced questions about Kennedy and politics while her coworkers got to simply discuss the show. She noted that she continues to experience that issue.
For instance, “The View” co-hosts spent an entire segment on Oct. 14 making Hines defend Kennedy’s actions in President Donald Trump’s administration, pressing her about Kennedy’s stances on vaccinations, Tylenol and Trump. Hines defended her husband against all of their criticisms, asserting that he supports vaccines.
Kennedy announced during an Aug. 2024 speech that he would suspend his campaign and endorse Trump in states where he was not on the ballot. Trump announced in November that would nominate Kennedy to lead HHS, with the Senate confirming him to the role in February.
