US forces seized an oil tanker, the Veronica, near Venezuela on Thursday morning as part of a crackdown on a global shadow fleet used to export sanctioned crude.
The US has seized ships in the past month, with the Defense Department saying the Veronica was subject to US sanctions.
The Trump administration plans to control future sales of Venezuelan oil, with proceeds to be held in US accounts and used to benefit the US and the Venezuelan people.
