Rioters that targeted United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations felt reinvigorated by the departure of chief Border Patrol agent Greg Bovino, Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) reporter Jorge Ventura said on Tuesday.
President Donald Trump announced border czar Tom Homan would be sent to Minneapolis to take over for Bovino in the aftermath of Saturday’s fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, during what the Department of Homeland Security described as a “targeted” enforcement operation. DCNF reporter Jorge Ventura told host Andrew Wilkow during an episode of the “Wilkow Majority” that the “morale” of the anti-ICE rioters had been “lifted” by Bovino’s departure. “The tensions are still high and the energy, to be honest, these folks have been given kind of a new lift in their morale because their view, their view of Bovino being relieved, they view that as a major victory,” Ventura said. “And this upcoming Friday, there’s another massive general strike here, where thousands are gonna come out and protest and close their businesses and just demand that ICE completely leave the city, but the morale of the protesters and the agitators has also been lifted with the news of Bovino being relieved.”
Anti-ICE rioters destroyed the lobby of a hotel and injured a Bureau of Prisons officer where ICE agents reportedly stayed while taking part in the crackdown, according to video taken by Ventura.
Ventura also observed anti-ICE rioters constructing barricades in roads with no interference from Minneapolis police. Ventura compared that scene to the “Capital Hill Autonomous Zone” that was established in Seattle during the 2020 riots after George Floyd died in police custody after he resisted arrest.
“I’ve been on the ground in Portland, which I thought was kind of like the worst of the worst when it came to left-wing violence and also just the organization with these left-wing agitators,” Ventura told Wilkow. “But here in Minneapolis, it has been really a whole another level cause it really seems like the whole city is working together.”
