A Lyft driver allegedly shot a passenger in a rage over his car’s doors getting slammed, according to police.
Florida driver Rolando Rivera-Casillas got into a rage when two brothers closed his SUV’s doors “too forcefully” — and then opened fire as they tried to run away and into their Orlando home, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Police arrived to find one of the brothers, who was in his 40s, on his front porch with a gunshot wound to his chest and foot, police said. He was listed as being in stable condition.
Rivera-Casillas, meanwhile, was standing beside his SUV with his hands and firearm on the hood, the sheriff’s office said.
In the ambulance, the brothers explained how Rivera-Casillas hopped out of the car and shot at them both as they were running away, which was backed up by video from surveillance cameras and a helicopter, police said.
The rideshare driver was taken into custody, where he demanded a lawyer and refused to speak with detectives, according to the sheriff’s office.
Rivera-Casillas was later charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.
A judge denied his bond at a hearing on Thursday and ordered he have no contact with the victim or any witnesses involved in the case, WESH reported. He is also barred from possessing any firearms.
He was also banned from ever driving for Lyft again, the company said.
“The behavior described has absolutely no place in the Lyft community or our society,” a Lyft spokesperson said in a statement.
“Our Terms of Service strictly prohibit weapons, and the driver has been permanently removed from the platform. We’ve reached out to the rider to offer support and stand ready to assist law enforcement in their investigation.”
