Quick-thinking cops in Texas enlisted good Samaritans to free a baby trapped beneath an overturned car following a violent roll-over — with the dramatic rescue caught on police bodycam video.
The heart-pounding scene unfolded around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, when Fort Worth police responded to a rollover on Interstate 30 and found that the driver was thrown from the car — while her baby daughter was nowhere to be found until cops showed up.
The video shows one of the officers examining the wreck before making a shocking discovery.
“We need to move the car,” he’s heard saying. “I think the baby’s under there.”
The two cops, with help from bystanders, then begin trying to free the little girl.
“Keep moving, keep moving, keep moving,” one of them said. “C’mon, c’mon, c’mon.”
The tiny baby is finally pulled free of the wreck — unconscious and not breathing.
“She has no pulse,” one of the officers is heard saying as he begins chest compressions — until finally the girl begins to breathe and starts to cry — a welcome sound for the cops.
“There you go, there you go,” the hero cops say. “Yeah.”
EMTs then arrive at the scene and take the baby to a waiting ambulance and on to the hospital.
“At this time, the woman and infant are in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery,” the Fort Worth Police Department said in a press release.
The hero cops were identified as Sgt. R. Nichols and Police Officer E. Bounds. Police did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
“We are beyond proud of the life saving actions performed by Sgt. Nichols and Officer Bounds for their bravery and quick response to this terrible scene,” the department said. “We are also grateful to the Forth Worth citizens who saw someone in danger and, without hesitation, assisted our officers.”
